Welcome to Salima’s Show…….

This is an online fundraising pet show to help raise funds to pay for Salima’s Nasal Tumour treatment.

The Results are in. Please see below. I will be in contact with the winners over the next few days. I can’t thank all of those that entered enough, the response moved me to tears on many occasions. Every entry is a winner in my eyes, I’m only sorry that there can only be a few winners.

Thank you all again, from the bottom of my heart. Richard & Salima Xx

THERE HAS BEEN 373 ENTRIES, RAISING £863 TOWARDS SALIMA’S VET BILLS.

Please check out the classes you can enter and here for details of how to enter

Please read her story below.

Even though I only cared for her for a brief time, she made such an impact. I met her at her low, but despite that she still was so strong and brave. It was lovely to see her get more and more comfortable. I don’t think that I have ever met a dog who still had such high spirits after being hospitalised for so long.” Mae, Vet at Dragon Vets

Salima was found cowering in a cow shed on the 11th November 2016. She was spotted on Leicester Sighthounds Group and we immediately offered to foster if we could find RBU (rescue back up).

During communications between several people including Julie Howitt, Leicester Sighthounds Group, and Hounds First Sighthound Rescue she was simply known as “Cowshed Girl”.

She was to become our foster dog #20, and on the 15th November, Richard helped with the transport run to go fetch her….and adopted her just a few weeks later, in time for Christmas. She also was finally given a name: Salima (Lima) which means “safe, at peace” ❤️

Lima is quirky, haughty, and VERY Saluki in both looks and character. She is also incredibly devoted to her family, especially Richard, who she dotes on with all her heart. She’s a beautiful weirdo and turns heads wherever she goes, despite her overbite!

A few months ago Lima started having a very snotty nose, and then nosebleeds, always from the same nostril. Then her eye started running lots on that side, too. After numerous visits to the vets it was decided to give her a CT scan, whereby a nasal tumour was found. Salima is only around 7 years old.

Richard was given two options: leave it be, with a life expectancy of only a few months, or bearing in mind her age and good health otherwise, give her a course of radiotherapy at a specialist vets in Essex, called Southfields.

She spent 3 weeks in Essex, coming home mid treatment for a long bank holiday weekend. She returned home on the 16th June after her final radiotherapy treatment. Unfortunately after a good first 24 hours, Lima took a turn for the worse and went downhill fast. Richard took her to our emergency vets on 19th June and admitted her. The radiation caused lesions, hair loss and irritation all over her face and infection took hold. The graphic photos show the extent and severity of the infection and are too horrible to show. She stopped eating and could not get comfortable. We were warned it would get worse before it got better but this was an exceptional case and she clearly needed more than we could give her.

She subsequently spent over a week at our local vets with 24 hour care, on an IV drip with antibiotics and very strong painkillers. We weren’t able to get her to eat much at home and that was our main concern, as she had dropped over 4 kilos since this all started….she started eating again within 24 hours of being put on the drip (only fresh chicken however!), so we knew that it was the best place for her while the infection cleared and the worst of her lesions healed, despite the extra cost. The vets cared for her so well and on picking her up Richard was told it had got a lot worse before it started to improve and there were some doubts that she would pull through.

The total cost of the treatment and care by July 2nd totals over £15500 and so Richard has had several big payments to make. Salima is insured with a good pet insurance provider, but with the limit up to £4,000 per year, only a small percentage of the total cost is covered.

These totals don’t include the extra expense of extra food, fuel and travel costs and some administration fees.

We are hopeful this dog show can help with those costs, be fun to enter and raise a smile for everyone involved so please consider entering and sharing with your friends.
